An indoor cat has found a sunny window, but the sill is too narrow for a comfortable nap. A perch sounds like a simple upgrade until you consider blinds, glass, radiator heat, and the jump down. Plan the entire resting area before selecting a bed that happens to match the width of the window.
Survey the window at different times of day
Visit the proposed spot in the morning and afternoon. A pleasant patch of light can become an uncomfortably hot space later, while a frequently opened window may create an escape hazard. Check blinds and cords, insect screens, nearby plants, and anything the cat might reach from the new height. A screen intended to keep insects out should not be assumed to restrain a cat.

Plan where the cat will stand before stepping onto it and where it will land when leaving. A nearby stable low platform may be more useful than simply mounting a perch lower on the glass.
Check how the cover comes off, whether washing changes the fit, and whether a replacement cover can be obtained. Hair collecting behind brackets can turn a small bed into an awkward cleaning job. In a kitchen or dining area, consider how the perch will interact with food preparation and shared surfaces. The best position is one that remains practical when the whole household is using the room.
Choose the least complicated suitable design
If a sturdy existing piece of furniture already offers an appropriate view, a washable bed on a secure surface may be enough. A specialized window product is useful only when it improves the arrangement. Compare the full footprint, mounting needs, cleaning work, and replacement parts rather than the advertised maximum load alone.
After installation, follow the maker’s checks before allowing use and observe early visits. Do not force a cat onto an unfamiliar platform. Recheck fittings during routine cleaning and after moving curtains or window treatments. If the cat prefers another resting place, reconsider the temperature and approach before buying a second perch. The purpose is an appealing optional resting spot, not a piece of equipment every cat must learn to use.
