Measure the destination and the available approach
Record the height of the resting surface and how much floor space extends in front of it. A short ramp to a high bed creates a different slope from a longer ramp to a low sofa. A washable cover is only convenient if you have somewhere safe to place the access aid while it dries.

Are ramps always easier than steps?
